Enter the Dragon...
From my inbox into the news.
Impression's Jon Payne, dropped a very short email in my mailbox. It said:
What I've seen sofar looks stunning and will provide endless hours of guesswork as to what does what and how. The most intriguing bit of news, however, is that it will support multiplayer games.
Here's some more news about it, brought to my attention by Sir William of Pork.
Sad news in Heaven
Some sad news was posted over on Caesar 3 Heaven. The first is a message from Ironrod/Kraken in which he tells us Impressions (Sierra), well known from producing Caesar 3, Pharaoh and Zeus, has decided to lay off part of their staff. Sadly he was one of the ones that had to go.
Bob Taylor followed up that post by informing us of some of the other known staff that were asked to leave as well, they include Reed, Eugrabades, Balthasar and Nixon. You can find his post here.
A sad day in the history of gaming.
We, the staff of Zeus Heaven, wish them all the best.
This link will tell you more.

Bug in the Poseidon Patch?
Thanks to the ever-vigilant David Masters for warning me about a little bug which seems to have crept into the recently released Poseidon patch:
The new patch for Poseidon has a 'minor' problem...
Update: Eugrabades dropped me a line to let me know that this particular issue is addressed (amongst many others) in the Poseidon FAQ, available on the official site.
Impressions has released a patch for Poseidon. Here's what it does:
It's only a small file (between 350k and 1mb, depending on the version you need), and can be obtained from the official downloads page (scroll about half way down to find it).
Please note that the forums will be down for maintenance some time today. We'll do our utmost to get them back online as soon as humanly possible.

The sound of giggling was heard among the lofty clouds of Heaven

Tired of temples?
With the sounds of chanting monks and catchy folk tunes while you build your castle and defend it from the attacking hordes of Duke Beauregard and his friends, Stronghold turns out to be a wonderful mix between City Building and Real Time Strategy.
While it has a more martial elelment Impression's City Builders, Firefly's Stronghold offers a lot more (micro-) resource management than games like Age of Kings or Cossacks.
It just hit the stores here in Europe and it seems the US will be taken by storm pretty soon.
Bored? Find out more about Stronghold or just downlaod the demo.

Lords of the Realm 3 Announced
Pulling up Impressions's main page shows that we need no longer wait to see what it is they're working on next:
Impressions Games™ and Sierra™ today announced development of Lords of the Realm® III, the long-awaited return of the companies' highly successful Lords of the Realm series of games. The ultimate medieval simulation, Lords III covers the entire life of being a lord in the middle ages - castle building and design, rural estate management, acquiring knights and soldiers to make armies, warfare and conquest, politics and diplomacy, and the struggle with or against the Church, and with the rising merchant class. The elements that made the Lords of the Realm series a best seller worldwide are now powered by an all-new 3-D graphics engine designed to catapult the game to the forefront of the strategy genre in late 2002. More information can be found at http://www.lords3.com.
Thanks to the 3 people (Cherub bobT, Sigbjørn Koksæter, and Quinn) who dropped me a line informing me of this little mystery currently being drawn out for its full effect on the Impressions website. Looks to me like a logo for their upcoming game, to be revealed no later than October 18th. It's still pretty fuzzy at the moment, but it's looking to be like there might be some fisticuffs going on .
Contest Winners Announced
The official Zeus site has posted up the winners of their caption contest. The winning entry was submitted by Liz Nation and goes something like this:
