Episode: Perils of Pirym

Author File Description
Grumpus The Elder
File Details
This is the first episode of an adventure I am working on. I'm not going to tell you if there is any military action, but I will tell you that if there is, it will be fatal. This episode is designed to be played at "Hero" level. I do not believe that it can be played sucessfully at any of the higher difficulty levels.

If you encounter any bugs, etc I can be reached at

Grumpus If you're looking for the meadow to put sheep on, forget it. Having sheep enabled was a goof on my part.
Map Design3.0
Grumpus mentions in his description that this is the first episode of a full adventure. Too bad the full adventure itself never materialized: this would make for an interesting first episode. As it stands now, this tough episode feels like the beginning of an adventure, with rough edges and an uncompleted storyline.

Playability: 2
The episode has one goal, a treasury goal of 3000 drachma. Easy, you say? Not when you start off with nothing at all and have some angry rivals to keep off your back. You have find a way to survive despite of this. After restarting three times (on Hero difficulty) I finally finished the episode, but it was not much fun: there's only one way to win, which requires careful planning, micro-management, possibly several restarts and a good dose of frustration.

Balance: 2
Grumpus thinks it's impossible to play at levels higher than "Hero", which I can only agree with: the episode is too hard already on Hero. An average player will most likely not be able to finish this episode due to the monetary micro-management required.
After getting through the first year or two, the episode becomes increasingly boring: it's just a matter of waiting your treasury go up slowly to the required 3000 Dr.

Creativity: 3
The idea to start off with no starting money at all is an interesting one, but not enough to merit an above-average rating.

Map Design: 3
The map has received enough attention to make it look OK, but not enough to be attractive. Considering that you have to use only a very small part to finish this episode, the map is a bit on the large side.

Story/Instructions: 3
The story itself is interesting, humourously written, and enough background information to tell you how you got into the perilous situation. This would have been a 4, but for the fact that only the episode's introduction has been written: the victory text is empty, and the story isn't "finished" because more adventures were originally planned.
In addition, it seems like Grumpus couldn't decide on the name of the main character in the story: in the title of the adventure it's "Perim", in the episode title it's "Priam" and in the episode introduction it's "Pyram"...

Additional Comments:
In short, this episode is a micro-management puzzle, but not a good one for people who are looking for a fully-fledged adventure.
