You thought Calydon was going to be a nice quiet city where you could relax... fat chance. 6 episodes (3 colonies). Medium difficulty. |

Really a great one, tons to do...until Medusa shows up. Or rather, until Perseus doesn't show up for, so far, a total of 7 years. That's an awful lot of destroyed stuff and stone(d) folk. Is this intentional (you sick puppy you)? |

Playability: 4
This adventure provides hours of fun, and offers a good variety of entertaining game-elements. Definitely above-average on the 'fun-factor' scale.
Balance: 3
Nightwolf rates this adventure as medium difficulty, and I agree. It is most suited for beginner-to-intermediate skill level. Advanced players may find there is not quite enough challenge. For example, an advanced player can achieve 'speed' wins that allow them to avoid some scripted challenges in the episodes. There also appeared to be a problem with how the God invasions spawned on the parent map. The God always spawned at a spot on the map that was completely surrounded by rocks, which effectively 'locked' the God at that spawn-point. Hence the God could not move and cause any damage to the city. Obviously, this turned the God invasions to a non-event, and lowered the adventure's difficulty.
Creativity: 4
Good creativity in map design and event scripting. The placement and timing of the Monster invasions was particulary well-done.
Map Design: 5
The maps are simply gorgeous. My favorite maps are the ones that are the most realistic-looking in terms of actual terrain features such as mountains, hills, water-courses, coastline, marshes, forests, ore-deposits, logically-placed meadows, and predator/prey spawn-points. The maps in all episodes of this adventure are outstanding examples of realism.
Story/Instructions: 3
The storyline is simple and gets the job done. It doesn't really go into any details, but it stays consistent and does have some plot-development. I prefer storylines that give more of a feeling of immersion in the ancient world (i.e., no use of modern slang English), but the storyline here isn't hampered much by its 'modern' feel.
Additional Comments:
I singled this adventure out for my first exposure to Nightwolf's design-style because I wanted to face the Medusa. To contradict the other player-comments here (which I see are quite old), the Medusa is definitely not an insurmountable obstacle to win the episode in which she appears. By the time she comes, a player has had adequate time to prepare for the summons of Perseus (who appeared for me quite promptly).
Overall, I was very impressed with this adventure, and would definitely recommend it for players of beginner-to-intermediate skill level. [Edited on 09/27/06 @ 07:51 PM]
