My first attempt at adventure building - I'd love some feedback on ways to improve the next one.
Both me and my girlfriend have played through and completed the adventure, and we have very different styles of playing, so I'm fairly sure there are no dead-ends or major errors.
it's quite short, consisting of 4 parent episodes and a single colony, though a couple of the episodes (especially the first one) can be a bit tricky.
basic premise is that in peaceful times you intend to build a prosperous and cultured city on a large island to take advantage of trade passing through, but there turns out to be more than a few obstacles in your way...
EDIT: updated txt file as of 12.40 23/09/06 now hopefully typo-free and with a couple of hints for episode 1.
Edit: updated .txt again 18.30 25/09/06, plus added image above |

Astrofabio, this download is a compressed zipped folder. It does contain a pak file and a text document. You might want to check that you are using the proper unzipping program. |

Hi-
I finished this a few minutes ago.
I'm not sure I'd call this a "Hero" level adventure- as you yourself note, that first episode is particularly nasty. Once I had my epiphany, though, I was able to get past the first episode without too much trouble. As the first episode is so tricky, you might want to include a walkthrough for at least that in your adventure file (or, perhaps, post a solution here).
Once you can get past that first hump (episode), you end up with a fairly entertaining adventure with an engaging story. Your maps, while presenting their own pitfalls, nevertheless provided enough room (in the case of the parent colony, JUST enough room) for me to build in my usual manner.
My only real suggestion for you at this point would be to go through the adventure text file and proofread your story for typos. I found several here- and while I wouldn't consider their presence a major problem, they are nevertheless distracting from an otherwise solid first outing.
Cheers,

GL - thanks for taking the time to play my game and (especially) for providing some feedback. I must admit i was a bit confused by the inclusion of a "difficulty" rating when i uploaded it, as I thought that this was some reference to the difficulty setting in game, which as i understand it can be changed by the player. maybe I need to investigate this further.
As for a walkthrough for the first episode, I didn't think this was necessary, as the only thing really making it awkward is the lack of space and low income. Or is there something specific that you think i need to mention? maybe i could just allude to a couple of things to bear in mind in the introduction text, what do you think?
Sorry about the typos, I'll check the text and update. I'm glad you felt the story developed ok - this was the one thing i was least sure of.

Here is my take on the 'difficulty' box on the submission screen. It's only a 'suggested difficulty', from the designer's viewpoint.
The way I decide what to put in there is to make a comparison of my custom adventure against the core adventures that come in the delivered game. The core adventures seem to start out less difficult, and progress slowly in difficulty as you play. Think about how your new custom adventure falls within that spectrum in terms of challenge. Are there aspects you have put in your adventure that will be tough for newbies? Maybe even tough for veteran players? Those considerations can be helpful to decide what rating to put in that box.
Do NOT think about the difficulty setting a player chooses during gameplay, that just confuses things. |

Ok thanks, what confused me was that the drop-down menu listed the difficulty using the same phrases as in the game, which made me think it was to do with an in-game option, or possibly an editor option which I had missed, so i just went for middle of the road until I worked out what it meant.

Hi, jimothy-
Feel free to E-mail me if you feel so inclined (I just updated my profile, so my E-mail should show). There are a few points I wanted to go over with you, and that should probably happen away from the board (so your adventure "remains fresh" for everyone).
Cheers,
