Someone on the Polish forums told me to try my hand at myth-based campaign for Zeus. 'Pelops and Sons' is the product of that attempt.
It follows the story of Pelops, who becomes King of Pisa in the land of Greece. His rule of Pisa and courting of Hippodamia is included in the story, then there's the rise and fall of his sons, Atreus and Thyestes, and in the finale we shall help young Agamemnon and Menelaus in just a few tasks.
I have extensively tested it and therefore there should be no bugs whatsoever. Little advice: do not over-spend in the first two episodes, and keep your housing districts away from the large plateaus, as during the adventure you will be required to construct a few (rather large) Sanctuaries.
Have fun!
18/01/16: Reduced the military strength of Elis so it should be easier to conquer if you fail to pay the ransom in time. |

This adventure was in my PC for quite some time, but just get to play this recently. Played at Hero difficulty. Review may contain spoilers.
Playability: 4
One of the biggest challenge was to pick a good spot to start the Parent city. Since large areas are advised for sanctuaries, the remaining areas are tight and will not suit large or any conventional squarish blocks. The city will need to adapt to the terrain and be compact. At early episodes, prudence was key, as income was a constant problem and the imports may cost a lot. The abundant gifts were really neat, almost too helpful. Zeus is a pest. Avoid the elevated forest area at the center. Sanctuary placements were a bit tricky, and in the end I got lucky for not needing to rebuild or demolish any existing areas. A tip is to build the sanctuaries far from your main area if possible. When the ransom request came, it was hefty but it was more than enough time to be prepared for it, so there was no need to make a conquest. Placing the elite houses around the slopes, and later to expand them, was quite some challenge as well. The last episode gave options to change the choice of worship, added some variety to this. The Colony was fairly easy, but with few coastal surprise. There was also the interesting choice on whether to make the colony a short run, or a much longer but possibly profitable stay.
Balance: 4
In the early episode, some of the accepted gifts made the episode a whole lot easier, albeit much less tedious and shorten the game time in a good way. Overall, the difficulty and gameplay throughout the adventure are well-balanced and smooth, no bugs or hiccups.
Creativity: 4
Events are well-placed and episode goals are reasonable. While I believe the last episode goals were made to match the story, it also got me hoping for another colony to play (haha).
Map Design: 4
Both parent and colony maps are nicely done. A small nitpick would be the tightness of the Parent map, the conveniently placed rocks and limited shoreline. All the required sanctuaries took big chunks of the map while not being entirely useful, except for Athena. Some lesser Gods are available much later, but at that stage it's probably not worth it, and personally I'm not an advocate of demolishing any built sanctuaries unless really needed to.
Story/Instructions: 5
Commendable storytelling. The life-drama of Pelops and his kins is immersive and well-written. Episode goals are well-explained and woven into the story seamlessly.
Additional Comments:
A solid and enjoyable adventure, thanks Haspen!
