Baltic's Book
The Voyages of Jason, part 4
Chapter 5
Arriving there, he saw that everything goes as planned. The only thing that was still left to be done was to build a sanctuary to Zeus. And a huge one, as you can see for yourself, if you visit Iolcus... Extreme amounts of marble, wood and sculptures were needed to construct it - and as the main source of income (wood export to Lemnos) was blocked by Lemnos' current attitude, Balticos saw to it that a strong army is trained and ordered to conquer Lemnos. Before this could have been done, more elite housing was needed, which in turn required more armor to be imported from Corinth - in addition to the yearly tribute of armor. Then Corinth was attacked from Lemnos, but Iolcus sent the best men to aid in the defense and joined armies defeated the invasion easily. As soon as the losses were replenished, troops of both cities sailed towards Lemnos to repay Amazons their nice visit and teach them a lesson.
When the message came that Lemnos was conquered, the foundation of the sanctuary was already built. From that moment, Lemnos sent 8 slabs of marble each year in tribute. All allies regarded Balticos highly, so there was no problem to ask for some armor, marble or statues occassionally. Construction continued at a higher rate, and was completed some 3 years later. Just by the way, elite warriors from Iolcus conquered Troezan when Balticos lost his temper while Troezan was demanding money again, and then celebrations were in order - Sanctuary to Zeus was finished!
