The Voyages of Jason

Heroics for People Less Than Heros

For the third Iolcus episode you have treasury requirement, a new Quest, and to prepare some goods to send to a colony of your choice It is now time to build a Hero's Hall for Jason!

To get Jason to visit, you will need:

  1. 3 Triremes
  2. Two horsemen companies
  3. 64 crates of food
  4. 8 horses
  5. 16 amphorae of wine.

A trireme, if you haven't dealt with them before, uses an astonishing 100 laborers. Once you build one, you should send the people home and then start building the next one. This way you can avoid a serious labor shortage. Other than that, this is a straightforward challenge. I started building up my estates to make up the 2 horsemen companies that you will need. Once you have Jason, you can send him to return the Golden Fleece of Greece. While working on this challenge, I managed to beg and borrow enough stuff to finish the Oracle of Apollo. I also started building up some extra marble to begin Zeus' Stronghold. Oh yeah, some poor sod tried to conquer me around this time and Athena had his army for lunch without me having to field one rock thrower! Also, a Dragon may visit your city. Without Apollo's Sanctuary to deal with the Dragon, I am not sure how well your city will fare. Fate can be a cruel thing, best to be prepared if fate deals you a bad hand.

Once you have finished getting ready to start a colony, you will have two choices: Corcyra or Corinth. It looked to me like Corcyra was the more peaceful of the two missions, so I chose Corcyra.

CorcyraIn Corcyra you have plenty of fertile land on which to build vines and wheat farms, as well as spread out your city most any way you want. Space and available fertile land are not a problem here. Also, you can finally tax people (yeah)! You will probably want to beg for some marble and sculptures. I traded away my oil and fleeces to keep the other cities happy while I was building up my wine trade. You can't produce sculptures, but you can either buy them or beg for them. I chose begging. After you finish your colony and get things running smoothly, it is back to Iolcus again!

For your final episode in Iolcus you get to have some fun and really build up your city in grand style. No top notch city could be without Zeus' Stronghold, so that is your big ticket item. To build the foundation of Zeus' Stronghold you will need a hefty 48 slabs of marble and 2,920 drachmas. Once you build the foundation, you will still need another 145 slabs of marble, 28 loads of wood and 22 sculptures. The other requirements were not too difficult in my case, but it does take a fairly long time to build the Stronghold. Also, don't forget to tax your people now that you can. If you do, you will finally be in a position to buy your marble instead of begging for it. Either way, enjoy building your grand city.

Good luck and happy adventuring. May Zeus smile upon you.
