…and 2 more screens

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 29, 2000

Lightning-quick update – 2 more screenshots have been added to the screenshots page.

Gods Gubbins

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 29, 2000

Kraken has been hitting the official board like only an Impressions designer knows how. This time, he’s wibbled out a bit on gods in Zeus:

Gods in Zeus will work very differently than they did in C3 or Pharaoh. They aren’t there to punish you for inattention. Sometimes you will want their help, and at other times they might ask for yours. Overall, it’s a more constructive, beneficial kind of arrangement (although not without risk!). They aren’t disembodied presences who grow angry if you don’t periodically click a “festival” button.

You can find the rest of the thread here.

Crackin’ with Kraken

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 27, 2000

Kraken gets crackin’ on the official forums today:

When we weighed ways to optimize our interface real estate, we all began with the assumption that the radar map was inviolate. Then we asked each other, “how often do you REALLY use it, and for what?” We concluded that players actually use the radar map maybe 5 percent of their playing time, and mainly as a go-to device (combat being the main reason). Yet the darned thing is there 100 percent of the time, taking up something like 20 percent of our limited real estate.

That conceptual breakthrough allowed us to make the interface tabs much more contextual — the window will always present information relevant to whatever you’re doing at the moment.

The radar map lives on. It’s just been relegated to a single tab. It’s never more than a click away when you want it.

The fact that it’s taken you this long to notice only confirms my initial suspicion that it was taking up more space than its value justified.

I think you’ll appreciate the change, once you get used to it.

That appeared in this thread about the mini-map in Zeus.

2 More Screens

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 26, 2000

All good things come in 2s, and this series of new, never-before-seen Zeus screenshots is no exception. I’ve just added another couple to the screenshots page for y’all to take a peek at.

Agora or palace? That’s the question ;).

Pre-Release FAQ updated

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 25, 2000

As the title of this update suggests, the Zeus Pre-release FAQ has just been updated (thanks Robert).

Not much more going on today. Have a nice rest-of-weekend, and tune in next week for some more Zeus screenshots :).

Screenshots at IGN

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 24, 2000

I spotted in this post on the official forum that IGN have posted 8 new screenshots of Zeus here.

Is it just me, or do these screens look different to the ones that we have seen so far? They seem to be quite a bit less cartoony (the housing has a different type of roofing too).

Just to confuse everything even more, I’ve posted 2 more screenshots showing the stadium, which seem to use the same graphics set as we saw in the first batch a couple of weeks ago.

I have donned my deer hunter-style Sherlock Holmes hat, and am investigating ;).

Historical Hammerings

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 23, 2000

Well, after my post yesterday that there probably wouldn’t be 1 news piece per day until Zeus is released, I thought I’d go ahead and contradict myself today ;).

This post is a little reminder that we have a Greek history forum here at Heaven, where there are already a couple of threads well worth taking a look at (though I’m sure there’ll be more to come, if the discussion over on the official forum is anything to go by):

ET is in the process of writing his own epic history of Greece.
We also have a thread discussing that barrel bloke Diogenes.

If you have anything to add to what’s already there, then please feel free :).

Guessy the Buildy!

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 22, 2000

Well, things have been quiet in this corner of Heaven for the past few days. Perhaps now would be a good time to mention that updates probably won’t be daily on this site for quite a while (until Zeus comes out), simply because it can be darn hard to find news for a game that hasn’t been released yet ;).

That said, I have a little news snippet for y’all to chew on today. A week or so ago I mentoined the screenshot analyses which had been going on in the Yeus General Discussion Forum – well, there’s another one, this time asking is people can guess the buildings shown in the shots.

Impressions’s Kraken has swung by, and said that some of the guesses aren’t too outlandish, so this thread is well worth a look ;).

Food and forts

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 19, 2000

In response to a post on the official forum by The Ancient One, Kraken posted a bit about food and forts (as the title might suggest ;)). His responses are in italics:

> 8) This time make it so that when in need you’d
> get to call the other cities for food or army
> etc…

This feature will be included in Zeus.

> 9) MORE forts!! Sometimes 6 are not enough.

Zeus uses a citizen army. The number and type of troops that you can muster depends on your population. There are no permanent forts. Sorry, but I can’t go into further detail about this.

You can read the whole post here.

Pre-Release FAQ is up

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 15, 2000

Here’s a little something that we also had for Pharaoh before it was released.

Official forum regulars Robert and Sinuhe have made up a pre-release FAQ for Zeus, which will help to answer the most ocmmon questions seen on the forums.

It looks different from all other ZH pages, but don’t worry – that’s how it’s supposed to be ;). Click here to view it.

Revised Roads?

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 15, 2000

In a post made to the official forum yesterday afternoon, Impressions’s Kraken dropped some hints about a new road and trade system:

You’ll definitely be pleased by Zeus’ revised roads system.

The mechanics of trade have been reworked, making it much easier to control.

Hmm…revised roads? What could that mean?

Misc. Comments

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 13, 2000

Impressions’s Kraken has been busy on the official forum once again, and has posted a couple of little things which I thought might be worth mentioning…

First off, we have a comment about the interface shown in the screenshots released last week:

I’m glad that you like what you see. It took a lot of effort to get it right, and it’s still not entirely done. We’re all convinced that the work paid off with an interface that’s more compact and easier to use.

We also have a snippet about the flags which can be seen in the shots:

Those are placeholders. Their function and final appearance aren’t yet designed.

Artwork Comments

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 12, 2000

Impressions’s Kraken has posted the following reply to the various comments in both our forums and on the official one that the graphics in Zeus look a bit too cartoony:

Individual building graphics are still subject to change. The overall look, though, is that desired by our Art Director and Lead Designer. Zeus is intended to have a slightly more whimsical overall feel — it’s a deliberate move further away from photorealism.

That post is here.

Screenie Speculation

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 11, 2000

Well, it sure didn’t take long. We now have several threads in the Zeus Discussion forums talking about the screenshots which were released on Friday evening.

The most active of those at the moment is this one, in which Cherub Bradius turns detective and uses all his Sherlock Holmes skills on some of the shots.

1 more quick thing – thanks to Angel Zen for fiddling about with this news page to make the columns here <– and here –> display properly ;).

AVault catching up…

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 10, 2000

The Adrenaline Vault have now posted some screenshots from Zeus. Don’t get all excited though, since they’re exactly the same as the ones which were posted yesterday on Impressions’s site.

Zeus Preview @ Gamecenter

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 10, 2000

Well, now that all the major gaming news sites seem to have gotten their hands on the Zeus newsletter, I guess we’ll be seeing plenty of previews popping up all over the Net during the next few days.

Anyways, hot on the heels of AVault’s pretty nondescript offering yesterday, Gamecenter has posted something a bit more substantial, complete with 4 screenshots.

It’s been added to our ever-growing previews page.

NS Problems Fixed

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 10, 2000

Thanks to Sinuhe for pointing out a problem in NS which forwarded you automatically to out “you are lost” page. That’s now been fixed :).

More screens to come soon

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 10, 2000

That’s what Itchy is promising in this forum thread:

We put those screens together yesterday from the latest build – the Art Dept. was looking to put in a mix of structures, activities and landscapes. Hope you like ’em…..more will be on their way shortly.

Welcome to Zeus Heaven!

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on June 10, 2000

Good morning everyone, and welcome to Heavengames’s newest little baby, Zeus Heaven!

This is a site dedicated to Zeus: Master of Olympus, the upcoming latest installment of Impressions Games’s city-building series. We hope that we’ll be able to probvide the same level of service as we have at out other city-building sites, Caesar III Heaven and Pharaoh Heaven. This site will be initially run by some old faces from those 2 sites, namely myself and Angel Jayhawk. However, as time goes by, doubtless we’ll see some new blood coming through ;).

I suppose that’s all for now…please take some time to have a look around the site – bear in mind, though, that not all the sections are fully ready yet (the history section in particular will get a few updates during the next few weeks and months).

If you have any comments, then please email me at the link above. Oh, speaking of links, I’ll do something to make them more visible in the next couple of days, so there’s no need to email me about that ;).
