Downloads Submission Instruction Update

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 19, 2000

This was dragged kicking (and possibly even screaming) from this forum thread:

If you name your file submissions with your name or initials in front of the episode name (like “FC-Athens”), people won’t be able to find it when they alphabetize the lists by Episode name.

You may not know it, but you can “sort” the download pages on Pharaoh and Zeus Heaven by clicking on the title of the column (like Author, Episode, Date, Adventure, etc.). For instance, if you want to find all of the cities submitted by SenetEr, you clan click on the word “Author” at the top of the list and the downloads will reorganize into alphabetical order. Cool, huh?

So, if you’ve named the title of your submission as “FC-Athens” and someone sorts the downloads looking for “Athens” submissions, they’re not going to find yours because it will be listed with the “F’s”.

What’s the moral? Just enter in the name of the Episode title, no names or initials.

ZeusEdit Updated

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 18, 2000

I just received an email from Buggi, the maker of the ZeusEdit utility:

Well I updated the editor. Now its version 1.5. I fixed a bug which caused the data of ‘Risk Reducer’ to be stored elsewhere. I also updated the Model File Editor to reflect the change from ‘Education’ to a check box for ‘Need Stadium’.

ImpressionsGames.com Downtime

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 17, 2000

*Enter 1 rodent, stage left, looking furtive*

*Aforementioned rodent rummages around in a large sack labelled “SWAG”, and pulls out the following:*

Due to construction around the ImpressionsGames offices, ImpressionsGames.com and all subsidiary sites and pages will be unavailable on Saturday, November 18, 2000, from approximately 8 am to 4 pm EST (1pm to 9 pm GMT).

In case you didn’t figure it out, that was an update pinched from the official site. Don’t forget that, while they might be down, we’ll be up all weekend (barring some unforeseen idiot unplugging the server \ lightning strike \ apocalypse, of course ;)).

Pic Submissions Required

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 17, 2000

Thanks to MDD for reminding me that I’ve been meaning to start up some sort of gallery section, like the one at C3 Heaven, and also a “Zoons” (Zeus cartoons) page.

So, if you have any screenshots, either humourous or not, which you would like to share, then please mail it to me and I’ll post it right here at ZH :).

Zeus and DirectX 8.0

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 15, 2000

Warning: Before installing Microsoft’s recently-released DirectX 8.0, take a look at this, posted by Impressions’s Itchy on the official forum:

For those of you updating your drivers, you may want to avoid using the newest version of DirectX (DX 8) for the moment. Our tech guys here at Impressions have found numerous problems with using DirectX 8, so it might be a good idea to wait until a newer version of Direct X is released that will address many of the incompatability problems that seem to be caused by updating to DirectX 8.

Thanks

Core Rewards III Winners

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 14, 2000

This just in from Impressions:

I, Hermes, have read all the heroes’ entries. For finding the most unique sites which pay homage to our father, Zeus, I pick Caylynn to be my champion. Caylynn will receive a signed, framed poster of Zeus for entering 30 new sites mentioning Zeus – more than any other hero. I also select Jaguar, who found 29 other websites to be my champion, and will reward his dedication with a free copy of Zeus. Praise be to the champions, and the other heroes who entered. May your travels always be swift!
If you didn’t win this week, you still have a chance! Head on over to Core Rewards for this week’s contest.

Wow, 2 wins in 2 weeks for Jaguar – good going! Congrats also to our forum regular Caylynn for snagging the top prize :).

ZeusEdit out

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 13, 2000

I posted something about this a couple of days ago, but it seems to have vanished into the virtual ether, so here we go again.

Buggi, author of the Pharaoh text file-editing utility FileEdit, has released ZeusEdit, which will let you fiddle around with the .txt files which make Zeus tick. So, if you want to fit a million people into a tenement, now there’s nothing to stop you ;).

Demo Walkthrough II Up

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 10, 2000

Fresh back from his trip to Mexico, with Spanish still ringing in his ears, Angel Jayhawk has got straight back to work and posted his demo walkthrough.

DailyRadar Zeus Tips

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 8, 2000

All-seeing Angel Thunder just ICQd me with the news that DailyRadar have posted a selection of hints and tips for Zeus. Well worth a look if you’ve just picked up the game or the demo, and don’t really know where to start. Here’s a bit of what’s on offer:

The instant a monster attacks and a new hero’s hall can be built, slow down the speed and drop the hero’s hall someplace. It doesn’t cost anything to place, and you can pick it right back up. But you need to know how to get the hero to show up. Many of them have a long list of specific goals required to bring the hero to your city. Once you know the goals, make that your city’s main focus — most mythical monsters are an amazing pain in the ass.

Zeus Demo Available!

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 7, 2000

Impressions have released (via GameSpot) the Zeus demo! Click here to make it your own, and to find out what everyone’s raving about:

Today, Sierra Studios and GameSpot bring you the demo premiere of Zeus: Master of Olympus. The demo lets players take control of a Greek city while Perseus is away rescuing Andromeda from the Kraken. Other cities will see how the players handle the situation and put their leadership skills to the test. Also available for download is an add-on, which will add the introduction movie and bring speech to the units.

Update: I’ve added my demo walkthrough to the (wait for it…) walkthroughs section.

Core Rewards II Winners Announced

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 7, 2000

Blurb yanked unceremoniously (possibly even kicking and screaming) from the official site:

I, Demeter, harvested many entries from your efforts to find Zeus’ name far and wide. I have selected my champion to receive my gift. For finding the most sites which pay homage to our father, Zeus, I pick double-dees for finding 35 separate and unique sites. Double-dees will receive a copy of Zeus: Master of Olympus box signed by its creator. Honorable mention goes to Jaguar who came in at a close second, bringing to our attention many pages where people praised Zeus in strange tongues. Praise be to the champion, the runner up, and all other heroes who entered.

If you didn’t win this week, you still have a chance! Head on over to Core Rewards for this week’s contest.

Kraken on Sheep Births

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 6, 2000

Impressions’s Kraken posted to the official forum on the subject of sheep, and whether they are replenished if used by priests for sacrifices (thanks, Angel Gustavia):

Sheep have a birthrate that can replace those lost to sacrifices. Newborn lambs don’t cost anything. If you have only one Sanctuary, the birthrate cancels out the sacrifices pretty nicely. With more Sanctuaries in your city, you might want to periodically replenish your herd.

Gods prefer animal sacrifices. Priests only sacrifice food when animals aren’t an option.

Wallpaper Tips

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 6, 2000

More thanks to give out, this time to C. Neill, who sent along the following method of spicing up your desktop:

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your site Zeus Heaven, and to drop off a tip you might not have thought of: I loved the startup screen backgrounds in Zeus, and was able to make them my wallpaper by going to c:\Impressions Games\Zeus\Data\ and double-clicking on any of the following:
scoreb
Zeus_defeat
any of the Zeus_FE_… files
any of the Zeus_load_… files
any of the Zeus_map_… files
Zeus_title
Zeus_victory

This (for me) brings the image up in a Netscape/ IE/ Neoplanet browser window, where you can then right-click and ‘Set Image As Wallpaper’. Zeus_victory is a personal favorite. I find the images look best when the wallpaper setting is on ‘stretch’ (rather than ’tile’ or ‘center’).

Zeus: Sequel of the Year?

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 6, 2000

Thanks to Angel Thunder from AOKH, who sent news my way that Zeus: Master of Olympus has been included in this GameSpot poll, asking which is the best sequel of the year.

So, get voting!

It’s an “Ekplixi”

Posted by Angel Reckless Rodent on November 5, 2000

Seems like the Zeus bug is sweeipng all round HeavenGames at the moment – the latest victim is Cherub Sunshine from Age of Kings Heaven. Whilst browsing around in the music folder, she found…well, let her explain it:

I went into the “Zeus” folder then I went to the “Audio” and then “Music” folders on my hard drive, and I found this song which is sort of funny. It is not in the game like the other songs, it is just a extra which was added.

This song does show that the impressions crew really was having lots of fun making this game. The song has voice from the game put into the song, so it sounds sort of funny.

I don’t know if any one else has tried this, but if you haven’t, you really should.

Sunshine

Over on the official forum, The Ancient One pointed out that “ekplixi” is the Greek word for “surprise”. Hmm…

Quick-Reference Cards Released
