The official site has just been updated with news on who the 3 lucky winners of the first Core Rewards contest were:

New Core Rewards Contest

Impressions has posted a new Core Rewards contest thingy on the official Zeus site. Here’s what this one is all about:

I am Demeter, goddess of all that grows, and I summon you to help me search out a richest harvest of Zeus pages across the internet. Till the ground and unearth websites throughout the land! Find all pages where Zeus the game is praised. Or create them with the labor of your own hands! A copy of Zeus personally autographed by his creator will go to my champion – the one who submits the greatest crop of pages. To become a hero, enter a link to any page where Zeus is mentioned. Only one entry per domain name is allowed. I, Demeter, will look at all entries and select my champion on November 7th . Bradius’s Briefing on Jason

Huge thanks on behalf of all at ZH go out today to Angel Spineman, who has finished working on the new-look ZH Downloads Section.

It functions exactly like the one we have right now at Pharaoh Heaven, so anyone who has previously submitted cities and scenarios to PH will feel right at home. So, if you’ve got a city you’re particularly proud of, then head into the downloads section and submit it to us :).

Debut Day for Walkthroughs

Today sees the debuting of our brand new walkthroughs section. Now, I know it looks incredibly sparse at the moment, but we’re working on getting it full as fast as possible (this time, the walkthroughs will be based on the full version, not on the beta).

A word on the format as well – each staff member here at Zeus Heaven will write up a general report on each adventure telling how he/she did it. These are not meant in a “you must do it this way or you’ll fail” way, but should merely be used as a guide. Hence also why we’ll have several reports on the same adventure – they’re different every time you play them.

For the moment, then, enjoy :).

SoundFrags? I hear you ask. What in Olympus is SoundFrags?

Well, it’s 1 of the cheat codes released yesterday by AVault. The only thing, is, nobody knows exactly what it does. I just got this email from Keith Bean with some info about its possible purpose:

In the zeus readme file there is mention of Soundfrags, and is used as a correction for sound cards that studder when the various gods appear, so I’am not sure this is a cheat at all.

If anyone out there is experiencing sound cards shudderings when the gods appear, bring up the cheat box (Ctrl + Alt + C) and type in SoundFrags – if it works, and solves the problem, then please drop me a line so I can clarify things. Thanks :).

The Adrenaline Vault has posted a list of cheats which are supposedly in Zeus. I buzzed Impressions about them, since cheats are usually only forthcoming after a few weeks, and through the official site (if the C3 and Pharaoh experience is anything to go by). I was told that they’re “dubious”, since the cheats were encrypted into the programming.

Kraken (no, not the one who comes with Poseidon’s Sanctuary ;)) has posted the following note to the official forums regarding the possibility of a map editor for Zeus being released in the future:

We haven’t said if or when we might release an Editor for Zeus, nor are we going to do so now. Should we come up with such a plan, we’ll announce it here.

Zeus hits stores!

Today’s the day, folks – Zeus: Master Of Olympus has started to appear on store shelves in North America. As a result, I’ve opened a Zeus Game Help forum to aid any of you out there who might be a little stuck.

As for the rest of the world, the only word I’ve seen anywhere is on Sierra’s German site, which lists November 15th as the projected release date in Germany.

Reports seem to be coming in pretty consistently now to the effect that Zeus will hit quite a few store shelves tomorrow. Here’s a statement spotted by Innovandora which was originally posted to Usenet by a relation of Impressions’s Marketing Weseal (a pretty good source of information, then):

I’m told Zeus should be on the shelves in some stores tomorrow, the 17th. If you’re looking for it tomorrow would be the time to start calling around. 🙂

Reports suggest that EB will get it tomorrow, and Wal-Mart might also receive a shipment or 2.

Trade Follow-up

Kraken posted the following follow-up to his earlier comments regarding warehouses and trade:

Regina: that’s basically right. Caravans only visit Trading Posts, and trade ships only go to Piers. Traders only visit the single facility dedicated to their own city, so the actual exchange of imports and exports is highly dependable. No trade occurs at Storehouses, but they’re still vital for diffusing goods throughout your city.

Core Rewards Clarification

Impressions‘s Marketing Weasel has posted some clarification on the official forum regarding the Core Rewards contest they’re running at the moment:

According to the rules, only the first entry of a domain name will count towards the contest. That means that once someone posts a link to a preview on Gamespot, no other entries from Gamespot will count. And since Gamespot is under the ZDNET.COM domain, that also covers all other entries under ZDNET. That’s why you have to be quick. Ares wants people to search far, not deep.

But don’t despair if there are multiple cool pages on a domain. Other gods may have different criteria, so save those links for later weeks.

Different sized warehouses?

Impressions’s Kraken took some time out to post on our forums today regarding the different sized warehouses which some people have spotted in some of the screenshots:

The smaller “warehouse” is a Storehouse. It’s equivalent to the storage facilites in our earlier games, although with slightly improved protocols. The larger one is a Trading Post. All trade facilities come with their own storage and deliverymen. Trading Posts and Piers are each dedicated to one trade partner, and you can have only one trade facility per partner.

Generally speaking, you’ll use Storehouses to manage the flow of goods in and out of your trading facilities.

New Look for Heaven

Now that things seem to be settling down a bit here on our new server (yes, we know about the occasional IS errors, and are working to fix them), it’s time to introduce a couple of new sites to the place we all call HeavenGames.

First off, welcome to SCNPunk, AOK scenario designers extraordinare – if you’re looking for news on AOK scenario making, then they’re the guys to see about it.

We are also proud to present Empire Earth Heaven, dedicated to the upcoming RTS by Stainless Steel Studios. Feel free to head over and give Angel Park a warm welcome to Heaven :).

1 more thing – a new logo has also been created to mark our new beginning. For the moment, you can see it here, but it will be put on all Heaven sites over the next few days :).

At the moment, you can win a signed and framed copy of the Zeus box; all you need to do is to post the URL of a website which links to the official site to be in with a chance of winning.

Impressions have just posted news that Zeus has gone gold (finished, and sent off for CDs to be duplicated for release):

…which is just a fancy way of saying that Zeus has gone gold! Which is a fancy way of saying that Zeus is officially complete and will be appearing on store shelves in North America in a few weeks (the rest of the world will have to wait just a little longer)! So, dust off your city-building skills and prepare to cross paths with gods, monsters and heroes!

Upcoming Service Disruption

If you experience problems accessing this site, indeed any other HGS sites, this coming Friday (13th), this will be due to the fact that we’re switching servers.

The forums will be read-only from Thursday evening to allow us to have as seamless a transfer as possible. New registrations will also not be accepted until we’re settled at our new home, which should, if all goes according to plan, be at some point over the weekend.

Thanks for bearing with us – it’ll be worth it :).

Spotted on Blue’s that GamePower has posted a preview of Zeus (including, interestingly, a reference to a November release).

Attached to the end of the preview is an interview with Alex Rodberg, Impressions’s Brand Manager, and better known to us as Xander (or sometimes the Marketing Weasel).

Impressions have updated the official Z:MOO site with what they’re calling an “Oracle Countdown”. It’s in 10 parts, with the first part visible here. Click on the chaps working on the temple to hear what they have to say.

Today is October 6th, several previews have slated the release date as October 16th, there are 10 parts to the countdown (=10 days?). Hmm…should we be drawing conclsions here?

Seems like Gamespy can’t get enough of Z:MOO (is it just me, or does that sound like the sort of game bovines might enjoy?), as they’ve posted another preview today. Here’s a little bit to get y’all excited ;):

Zeus: Master of Olympus should be out in the later part of October, so if you are a fan of city-building games and want something new, Zeus should deliver plenty of the old stuff and a lot of the new.

I’ll leave comments about the previewer’s building style to someone else 😉

Kraken on Zeus Game Model

Kraken posted some information about Zeus’s game model on the official forums last night:

While we do appreciate the support of our fans, we don’t discourage skepticism or criticism. All voices are welcome here as long as the viewpoints are presented calmly and politely, as in this post.

I think we’ve adequately addressed this over the months in our posts and interviews. A short answer: We’ve removed the need for tedious micromanagement — without taking away the ability to micromanage, if you’re an efficiency freak — and we’ve added a lot of higher-level strategic challenges.

Zeus is also less repetitious than its predecessors — you don’t have to start a new city from scratch in every single mission.

Maybe best of all, Zeus has a lighthearted approach, compared to the solemn Caesar and Pharaoh games. You can tell that we had some fun making it, and that’s going to come across as a more fun game.

At its heart, Zeus is a strategic city-building game more than worthy of its antecedents. You won’t be disappointed, especially if you have a sense of humor.

Soon, now, you’ll see for yourself.

Zeus Spokesman Denies “Idiot Child” Rumour

[Cambridge, MA] A spokesman for Impressions Games today denied that the upcoming city-building game Zeus : Master of Olympus would be “the idiot child of the city-building series”. In a statement made to a packed official forum, he stated that:

We’ve done the realism/serious history approach, and this time around we wanted a different take. I, for one, have spent the past 3 years of my life making city builders, and couldn’t face making the same game over and over again.

The fun that we had making Zeus shows in the game. Early returns, from people who’ve played our Beta and beyond, say that this is the most fun city builder yet.

I’ll be interested to know if your opinion changes after you’ve spent some time in the Greece of Zeus.

We await further developments.

IGN Preview

Spotted on Evil’s that IGN PC has posted another Zeus preview. Here’s what the author thinks about the supposed reduced difficulty level:

If the game seems to bring the bar down a bit for less experienced gamers, that shouldn’t necessarily imply that the challenge level has been reduced. Zeus still has the frustratingly difficult qualities that made Caesar and Pharaoh both hits. Now it’s just a little easier to cruise around the interface and a lot easier to stage a comeback after you’re run your city into the ground. Having been a fan of the previous games, I’m curious to see how the final version plays. I’m even more curious to see where the series goes now that the trilogy has been completed.

GamesDomain Preview

Forum regular Innovandora dropped by to let us all know that GamesDomain has posted a hands-on preview of Zeus. Here’s a bit which will surely have you all looking eagerly at your calendars:

Gamers familiar with Caesar III and Pharaoh will have no trouble jumping right into Zeus and I expect this third installment to be the best of the three. For the first time it appears that Impressions Games has made a real effort at making the game fun rather than detailed. The unique storyline and setting goes a long ways towards piquing the interest of gamers that already own Caesar III and Pharaoh. Pray the game arrives with Mercury’s speed. (It’s expected to release in US on Oct 16.)

I wouldn’t set too much stall by that October 16th date – if it was going to be on shelves by then, then it would probably have to go gold this week, which looks a bit unlikely.
