Hello O./
I have been playing this game almost every other year for a long time now, but haven't actually finished a scenario yet...until now.
This Adventure has 9 Episodes, all of them are Parent Episodes. You will unlock new Areas when completing Episodes in order to further establish your city. There are NO DISASTERS, other than the ones I used to unlock parts of the map, those will however not destroy buildings!
The difficulty in this Adventure comes from the fact that Taxation is not possible until the very end, meaning you will have to export goods rather than getting by via Taxation. Early on your space will also be limiting, but this will also get better the more you progress.
Your City will start with very little and slowly grow into a self-sustaining metropolis.
I tested the Adventure on Olympian difficulty but I recommend Titan or Hero, if you don't want to stress out about money that early on, but those who want a bit of a challenge are welcome to play this on Olympian
PLOT:
You were on the Advisory team for the last King of Palaios, a city now in Ruin. When the King insulted Hades the god destroyed city and you just barely got away. Now its up to you to rebuild a new home and while the area looks promising, Hades is not quite done with you yet.
I hope you enjoy the Adventure. Any feedback or reviews are very welcome!

Fairly easy on Hero, no notable bugs. For advanced players I'd suggest to jump right into Titan or Olympian level.

On the easier side of the scale. I don't want to sound negative - I really wasn't - but the city Neos was never at risk of running out of resources. Granted, resources were overflowing and the only foremost challenge was on how distribute them efficiently in the stretched-out city. Shouldn't be a problem for any advanced players, especially with Hermes in town.
And this was a rather peaceful adventure, with the focus on cityscape and trades - a true building adventure.

The concept of unlocking a new area using earthquakes was very refreshing. Events were solid and flowed smoothly.

Great effort from the author. Areas were well-planned. If I'm being critical, each areas were a tad too large or bountiful. There was so much open space, there was no need to overthink when laying out constructions or housing blocks. Admittedly I wasn't building entirely efficient, but when my adventure ended there were still 30-40% of land unused lol.

Nice story. No notable issues on grammar. I do find some minor encoding issue with the apostrophes ('), maybe it's just my laptop though.
Gamewise, I was actually expecting Hades to visit/wreck havoc in the city. Then I saw there wasn't Hades in the opponent God list. Lucky me I guess :D
Additional Comments:
A solid debut. There are few rooms for improvement. An increase of some of the goal numbers could be useful, like year production etc. Another example, in episode 6, where the city was supposedly very stable and was expecting to boost the military, a "4 spearmen" goal was really underwhelming here.
That said, this was still very satisfying and overall an interesting adventure. Thanks! |

Played on Olympian, not too challenging, no major bugs. There was a graphics glitch on the second level of the silver mountain, if you wanted to fix the cliffs.
Balance: 4
Aside from dipping into debt once in the very first level, I was never really concerned about running out of resources, and there was more than enough space for housing loops. I think I ended the game with 11k population and a treasury of about 220k, and I still had plenty of space. I see you uploaded a modified version of the game today, so maybe that has changed.

I really loved the steady progression of the map being unlocked via disasters; you could plan for what you knew was coming, and I think the actual story itself was fun.
Map Design: 5
Plenty of space; clearly designed as a creative city-builder.
Story/Instructions: 5
I was expecting some more spice from Hades himself and/or cerberus. Maybe he harasses you for the early levels but leaves you alone in the final "make him happy" episode?
I might also go through and get rid of the apostrophes in your mission text; maybe it's just my computer, but they showed as random characters.
Additional Comments:
Great work, especially for your first adventure!

No issues found. The narration and the earthquake-unlocking events made it very easy to understand how the adventure would develop.
Balance: 3
Due to the abundance of resources and land, I get the impression that this is meant to be a city-building sandbox type of adventure with no challenges. However, the tech-progression style interferes with that idea, so you can't actually build a nice city for the first half of the adventure. The large size of the map could present a challenge for players who want to build giant cities, but for those who just want to complete the adventure, two housing blocks in the middle of the map is more than enough, and easy to sustain. The near lack of scripted events means you are rarely distracted from city building, which makes things straightforward but dull - several episodes consist of fast-forwarding a year to build a monument or two. I would rate the difficulty as a 2 perhaps ("Mortal"), as it is about as easy as the first Zeus/Poseidon adventures, if not easier.
Creativity: 3
The adventure is (a little too) straightforward. The tech/land progression is the major element of this adventure. However, the lack of events makes this feel like a sandbox-type adventure, which inherently is not brimming with creativity. Due to the map design, there are few challenges for creative play as well.
Map Design: 3
I think the map is far too large. If everything shrunk by 30-50%, things would be much more exciting, and there would still be plenty of space for full housing blocks and such. In fact, the first three episodes are my favorite because of the lack of vast swaths of empty land.
The zoning disasters are handled well, but in the end it feels a tad too linear. Sure, the Poseidon editor limits you to only 4 disaster gates (such a shame), but the real issue is that each section of the map is single-faceted: "this is the fishing section. Here is the quarry section. Over there is the copper section, etc."
Aesthetically, the scrub doesn't look too good, but at least it's not an eyesore in most places - except for the quarries and the meadow. At first I thought the meadow was a swamp lol. The trees are basic. I think the mountains are not too bad at least. That being said, the lack of elevation in the majority of the map makes things uninteresting. While the coastline is quite nice, having an extra lake or river would really spice things up.
Incidentally, there is a single tree at the base of the orichalc mountains (and another one at the southwestern tip of said mountain, although inaccessible).
Story/Instructions: 4
The story makes sense, although perhaps a little bland at a few points. If anything, perhaps it was a bit too expository? I'm not sure. Formatting the text and clearing up some typos here and there would certainly help.
Incidentally, instead of "setting aside wood and fleece for a colony" as the objective for Parent 3, you should use the "yearly production" objective, since that is in fact what the story is intending.
Additional Comments:
I've always wished there were more tech-progressive adventures, and this one fits that trope very well, so thanks! |
