The Famine

Author File Description

Difficulty: Hero
Number of episodes: 7 Parent, 3 Colony
Minimap:
Hello Everyone. After a little break, I have returned with my third adventure for you to try playing.

This one is a Greek adventure, but uses assets from Poseidon. 7 Parent episodes and 3 colony ones.
Please play on Hero difficulty or higher, as it may be too easy for you.

This one may be a little "unoriginal" in concept, but I always loved the myth of Demeter searching for her lost child and abandoning her Godly duties. I loved how this was the Greek world's way of explaining the seasons and showing Demeter as super bad ass.

- So, Persephone has gone missing and Demeter mourns her loss. Whilst the Goddess of Spring is missing and the Goddess of fertility mourns her, nothing is growing and famine covers the land. You have been chosen by the people of Greece to build a sacred city to the Goddess Demeter and to help her find her missing daughter.
Along the way you will grow lots and lots of food (you need it), make deals with Titans, build multiple colonies, and fight monsters and gods to discover the truth.

I had fun making this adventure as I've been toying with the idea of it for a while. If there are any issues at all please let me know. I have play tested it a few times now and tweaked a few things here and there, also I apologise if episode 5 is boring as hell, as I had to have a filler episode haha.

Have fun fellow builders

Loved the adventures and the tasks that matched the story.

Balance: 5
This certainly felt like a challenge in the good way, invading gods and natural disasters kept me on my toes and made me think how I wanted to lay the city out.

Creativity: 5
Definitely top marks for this. The layout of the maps, the interations with the Gods and allies/rivals kept it feeling fresh throughout

Map Design: 5
If I could give the map design a higher score - I would. So much attention to detail in this that makes playing the home city and colonies so much more enjoyable!

Story/Instructions: 5
The story writing is very good here, clear narrative with some good humour! The thought that went into this is very clear

Additional Comments:

Overall, I thought this was a really great campaign. I'm sure many others will too
Haspen The map is beautiful. About time I revisited Zeus after this many months, so might as well play this :D

Well, they say this field should show how much fun we had... I think a 5 says it all! :) I started on Friday in the late evening and stayed up until 6am next morning. I can't remember the last time this happened.

You have managed to make it interesting from the beginning until the end. There were no easy (filler) missions. At the same time, I was never driven crazy by too big challenges. Kudos for making colonies a really integral part of the story! In many other adventures colonies are there only to get a new resource and are actually boring to build. Not here. Every colony was a completely functioning big city for itself.

Creativity: 5
To be honest, there was nothing really out of the box or unseen here. So perhaps, if I wanted to be really strict, I should have put a 4 here. But then again, I loved this adventure so much (probably my second- or even most-favorite so far). I am also not really sure how one can be "perfectly creative" in this game (other than writing a creative story, but that's under another category), I have played it so much I have seen pretty much everything.

Map Design: 5
I love big maps. There is something about being able to build everything :) both in the main city and its colonies. And yet, you have really given attention to details. I must say, everything fit perfectly in my main city and I used most of the map. It shows you have played this game a lot. Thank you for not making natural catastrophies unnecessarily damaging (apearing in places you would obviously use for building). They were ever-present (related to the story), but I almost never had to rebuild much.

Story/Instructions: 5
This is a known story from the Greek mythology, but you have managed to give it your own touch. I really like immersive stories, I read every single line. However, there was one tiny thing that bugged me. Typos ^^' . I understand that the text was long and I as a non-native English speaker should not be the one to judge, but it caught my eye. If you want, I can list the typos I found in a separate post, I don't want to put them here as there may be small spoilers related to the story. Also, I think narrations would make this adventure even more awesome.

Additional Comments:
Once again, thank you so much for making this! I loved it :) I will try your other adventures as well. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to make this? I have had some ideas for new adventures for years, but I never played with the game's adventure maker.

h_erculesthereal First time poster and wanted to thank the author. Great map and adventure. A little odd thing happened which has never happened to me before (I've been playing this game since it's release). When Cerberus was released, it was walking around and there was an earthquake. Cerberus was stuck in the middle and slain. Plus I also got the message he was slain. Thanks again.

Hey h_erculesthereal
Glad you like the map, thank you :)
I think the thing with Cerberus was accidental, the earthquake and him appearing are due to happen at the same time, or at least very close to eachother, he must of decided to walk on the earthquake crack himself. Never happened to me though.
At least you were saved from him munching your city, as he is set to be quite aggressive :)
Hope it didn't ruin your enjoyment

(Clumping these two together)
A very well-balanced adventure, with both enough challenge and sufficient conditions to fulfill them. I felt like I could play through every episode and finish them when I got there, with no need to practice meta-gaming via gold farming for a few years before the next adventure. Enemy attacks either happened late enough for me to have had time to build up an army, or with enough allies on my side to be able to scrounge up defensive aid or bargain money in time.

Creativity: 5
What a fully realised idea this is. The story of Persephone isn't creative as such, but the way the story was told through episodes, flavour text and map design, it is a complete vision.

Map Design: 5
Interesting without being limiting, is how I'd summarize it. every one of my cities looked different, but I didn't feel like my hand was forced. Good use of natural disasters to not just wreck my stuff, but to make me look through the map ahead of time and occasionally have to relocate things. Seriously, the natural disasters in this map are some of the most well-implemented ones I've ever had in a Sierra builder!

Story/Instructions: 5
I've said a bit about it, but from a technical standpoint I'm impressed with how much care went into the narrative. It feels like one of the base game stories, which in my case is a massive compliment. Well done!

Additional Comments:
WOW, what a fun adventure! I hope this forever scores a perfect five, because by the gods does it deserve it. Thank you so much for making this, it was an absolute joy to play through!!!

@Armourduck
Thank you so much for your review and your kind words. I am so glad that you enjoyed the adventure. I was worried this one was a bit basic compared to my other ones, but I'm thankful you found it fun :D

Thank you again, and again!
