This scenario circles around the rise of Alexandria. The normal beginning to become the most powerful city in ancient world. It spans from the Diadochi period to the Roman period. The land is huge and have specific places for specific building. You can play it at any difficulty, especially Olympian difficulty for the most fun and challenges. Despite the bugs and some things I would change (covered later on), this scenario was fun to play.
The only major bug I found was the fact that as of episode 2 you can no longer build urchin quays. You can finish the game without them, but it's obvious the map was supposed to rely heavily on the sea, so it just feels like you're missing on something.
Secondly, in one of the episodes, once the military story kicks in, you conquer a rival but they won't sell you any wine (even though they sold it earlier, while they were still an ally). This could make the game much more challenging if you don't hurry and finish the episode before you military houses decline. However, I remember having this bug in some other scenarios as well, so it might be related to the game itself.
Balance: 5
I played the game on titan and had so much money through the game I simply bribed anyone who invaded the city. I probably should have gone with olympian. Still, I wasn't bored as there were other challenges.
Creativity: 4
It's hard to be very creative in this game, but you managed to do very good. It's not a 5 due to the fight that I wasn't wowed by anything, in addition to the comments under Map and Story.
Map Design: 4
A very nice idea! However, it could be made better. Firstly, there's an island that looks perfect to fit Atlas' sanctuary. So I kept waiting for the possibility to build it, but it never came. I could have built Ares instead much earlier. The island that's supposed to fit Poseidon's sanctuary could be smaller, it would make it look better if the sanctury fit perfectly. Also, there are some small islands that look as though they were originally intended to fit urchin quays or fisheries, but neither can be reached from there.
Other than that, I really anjoyed the idea of "having" to put some buildings in a specific place. I will try to find more scenarios like that :)
Story/Instructions: 4
Although the story isn't something I will remember for a long time, what really made me decide to give a 4 instad of 5 are spelling/grammar mistakes. I know it's hard if you're not a native (neither am I), but it just bugs me. Also, I would love to hear some narrations.
In the last episode, it takes a long time for the enemy cities to start becoming vulnerable. I almost quit, thinking it would never happen. Maybe a word or two in the story would help people know they should simply wait.
Additional Comments:
One of the last goals is to reach population of 12k. I quit before that, with everything else finished. |
